About Me:
Rabbits!
Why?
I started my rabbit hobby without realizing it. It first began when I was given a mini rex rabbit. This rabbit came with one condition, I had to join 4H. After doing some research I found this hidden world of rabbit showing and fell in love. Not long after I pitched the idea of raising rabbits to my parents; they were doubtful, but eventually agreed... to just one more rabbit! Well, one turned into two and you know how it goes. As it sits I currently have 10 rabbits and 2 cavies.
When?
I started raising rabbits about three years ago and have participated in local showing on and off since.
Where?
When I tell most people I have ten rabbits they often respond with " do you live on a farm?". And actually I do not; I live smack dab in the suburbs *sigh*. My rabbits have taken over our garage and my cavies live inside. As for my horse she is boarded at a farm about twenty minutes away.
Who?
Unfortunately my family doesn't have must interest in rabbits, so that leaves me. However, my mom always comes to shows and of course is there to fork out the feed bill.
What?
Rabbit showing is unheard of for some people. However it is turning into a large industry with followers all over the world. The American Rabbit Breeders Association is what runs it all. No different that the Canadian kennel Club, member show and raise animals; all in hopes of winning the big trophy. Shows are sanctioned and rabbits win "legs". Rabbits can be registered and become Grand champions if they have three legs. Its hard to summarize this hobby of mine; but I would definitely recommend it to anyone for something to try.
