So, some may say I'm crazy, however I like to think of myself as imperfectly normal. Yes I have 10 rabbits!( you read that right) And while to the rabbit enthusiet and or the rabbit breeder that number is thought of as quite small. It can be seen by the ordinary eye as somewhat of a train wreck.
Now before my new addition came along I had owned chocolate;my other guinea pig; for about 2 months.( his adoption story to come) and truth be told I would of never thought a getting another pig!
It is of common opinion that guinea pigs need company, and while I thought this was a good idea, I figured Chocolate had been a loner all his life and would be just fine staring at himself in a bird mirror.
So when I first glanced my eyes on my new pig I tried to resist and stay strong! It was absolutely against my values as a breeder and knowledgable pet owner to ever consider purchasing a pet from the petstore. (This is another topic and time)
I walked in and straight to the small animals. I promptly looked in at the guinea pigs labelled "teddy female guinea pigs". And one certain pig stood out, and of course she was not a teddy at all, but in fact a texel!
I jumped in glee! I had never seen a texel in person before. I obliviously had to describe to my mom who was with me the exciting news. I hid my happiness in attempt to avoid looking like a complete crazy lady in the pet store ;Yet somehow this did not work.
I am no one to buy an animal on impulse so therefore I held down the hopes of my inner being and left the pet store empty handed.
A few days passed and many hours of research later, I just couldn't resist. I had read all I could and practically memorized the ARBA standard for texel cavies.
That's when it finally happened. We went and got the little 2-3 month old TEXEl sow.
A whopping $50.00 and absolutely no information taken later I was out the pet store door.
I was finally the precious owner!
Pandora as I named her, is a broken black texel sow cavy. She has a great amout of energy and always offers up some cheerful noises when it is feeding time.
